Please help us find a loving home for Shayna! We are helping to raise our prematurely-born (28 weeks) granddaughter, and it's become very clear that she is allergic to animals. We have no choice but to become a pet-free household, since her prematurity will always make her too susceptible to lung-related diseases, and she is still medically fragile enough that she requires a breathing/heart monitor, regular breathing treatments, and frequent trips to the doctor and emergency room.
Shayna is a smiling boisterous sweetheart of a dog with the heart of a puppy. We can never be sure of her mix but she's got a lot Staffordshire terrier (pit) in her (brindle color/short coat, good watch dog), and seems to also have lab in her (face, personality, goofiness, loyalty). We jokingly call her our "dancing hippo" after the characters in Disney's "Fantasia" because her self-perception is clearly that of a dainty lapdog ("Shayna Maidela" means "pretty girl"), while her reality is that she's a klutzy smiley high-energy goofball. She loves to play and run, she can catch almost anything you toss to her, and yet she'll also lie at your feet (she'd much rather be in your lap but she WILL stay at your feet if you remind her!), often sprawled so "lady-like' on her back, looking up at you with a big grin and endless love in her eyes. She is around 4 years old and was rescued from the local SPCA when she was around 4 months old. She is completely house and crate trained, spayed, microchipped, has been kept on heartworm and flea medicines, and kept up to date with her shots. She's shown a clear capacity for being trained beyond what we've done, since she loves to please - she'll sit, come, drop what's in her mouth, go right into her crate when asked. Shayna would do best in a home with a larger fenced yard or with someone who has time to play with her daily and give her the exercise she needs. She loves to play with dogs that she knows, but she can be initially cautious and defensive around dogs she just met. She deals very well with being crated and with behaving herself while you’re gone. It's breaking our hearts to lose our four-legged family members, so we hope that there's someone out there who will consider giving a loving home to our Shayna. I am in Sussex Co. Delaware, but I will gladly bring Shayna to in Delaware or Eastern Shore MD, actually as far as 100 miles from here, to allow you to meet her and see how she gets along with the human and animal members of your family. If you are interested, I'll ask for you to provide me with vet references. Email me at shayna@vmfamily.com, or call me at 302-841-5360, if you have questions or would like to set up a time to meet
